THE 2012 MAYA MEETINGS
BEYOND THE GLYPHS: ANCIENT MAYA INSCRIPTIONS AS LITERATURE

Casa Herrera, Antigua Guatemala
Workshops: March 12-14, 2012
Symposium: March 15, 2012

The 2012 Maya Meetings will take place at UT Austin’s new academic and conference center for Mesoamerican studies, the Casa Herrera, a beautifully restored 17th-century mansion located near the center of Antigua, Guatemala’s colonial capital. The Casa Herrera is a new research, conference and teaching facility operated by the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin in collaboration with the Fundación Pantaleón. As an extension of the university’s Mesoamerica Center, the Casa Herrera focuses on the varied and inter-related disciplines that contribute to the study of Pre-Columbian art, archaeology, history and culture.

The Mesoamerica Center is excited to be able to take the Maya Meetings to the land of the Maya, to expand this spirit of learning and exchange. The Mesoamerica Center will make Antigua a routine location for future conferences, alternating each year with our traditional venue on the UT Austin campus.
