Danny Law is a linguist and anthropologist who investigates the history and dynamics of language use in the Maya area. His research program includes contemporary language documentation and description in cooperation with communities of speakers of Mayan languages in Guatemala and Mexico, most recently, the Ixil of Highland Guatemala, as well as colonial manuscripts written in Mayan languages, and the grammar and poetics of ancient Maya hieroglyphic texts. He is an Associate Professor of Linguistics at The University of Texas at Austin and has taught hieroglyphics workshops at The Mesoamerica Meetings, and The Maya Meetings before that, for over a decade.
